Jeez they call them racing flats for a reason!!!  I had been toying with the idea of trying out a true pair of racing shoes for a while now and tonight I did just that.  I knocked out a five mile tempo run at about my 10k pace with significantly less effort than normal. Successful test drive to say the least.

Friggin summer has returned with a vengeance so I have nixed the lunchtime runs for the last half of this week.  I knocked out six on the indoor track at LAC last night and tomorrow morning I will cruise through an easy 3 or so and finish up with some strides just to tune up for Saturdays race.  18:00 flat is a tad optimistic but lets just see how it goes.

Faaaahhhhhkkkkkk!!! why can’t I get motivated to do the paperwork that I brought home with me?!?!  I had been planning on doing it right now… at this very moment  all weekend long but it just is not happening!  None of it is difficult or will even take more than a few hours total…  I just cannot get started.  I would plan on taking care of it, you know, AT WORK, except that I seem to spend all day at the office being sidetracked by everyone else’s crap.  I have accomplished a lot today… Run went well, good day with the buoy, laundry all caught up and everything is put away, picked up a few groceries for the week…  I think maybe I have just hit the wall and need to just chill for a bit.  Might fall asleep though.

About that run…  18 miles in the rain and did not struggle or even feel pressed until I made it back to my new neighborhood.  The worst part was this little sonofabitch hill about 100 meters from the townhouse that I have already grown to hate because I finish every run going up it.  All together though I was very pleased and happy to be running in the rain…  Washes the pain away I guess.  I am so much better in the AM vs the PM.  Running plan for the week to get to around 44 miles total…

Tues: easy 4 - 5 before work

Wed: lunchtime hill repeats in the office park (about 4 miles total)

Thur: 8 easy lunchtime miles from work

Friday: Total Rest

Sat: 1 mile warmup, 5k race (hopefully @ 5:47 pace), 1 mile cooldown

Rainy Stroller Run

Much shorter… much more laid back stroller run today.  It was just sprinkling when we left and I figured we were only going four or five miles so it would be ok.  The buoy seemed to get a big kick out of getting a little wet, actually!  The looks we got from people were priceless and in general disapproving.  Ended up going 4.5 miles with about a 45 minute break after 3 to play on the fallen logs / children s forest thing in the arboretum.  That was perfect for today as all I basically wanted to accomplish was a short, “stretch the legs out” run.  Will be shooting for 18 tomorrow morning and won’t be laden with the stroller so hopefully my legs wont have that “stuck in the mud” feeling  like they did today.  The only ache / pain / niggle is my right Achilles but it wasn’t that bad and it hasn’t gotten any worse (or better) for weeks.

Will see how tomorrow and the first part of the week go but I think I am going to try a 5k in my hometown this weekend.  I hadn’t necessarily planned on it but one thing I learned from HTC is that I can stack more hard efforts together than I give myself credit for.  18:00????  That would be a PR by about 30 seconds for me but lets see how close I can come.
